Can I register if I have a medical condition?
There are only 2 exceptions where organ donation is ruled out completely are:
-
If you have been diagnosed with HIV
-
Or have, or are suspected of having, CJD
What body organs could I donate?
You can donate Tissue such as:
- Corneas
- Skin
- Bone
- Tendons
- Cartilage
- Heart valves
And body organs such as:
- Kidneys
- Heart
- Liver
- Lungs
- Pancreas
- Bowel
What makes a person decide to become a donor?
Most people who become donors want to ‘make a difference to someones quality of life’. Bereaved parents of a child that has died suddenly may draw some comfort from knowing that their child’s death has saved the life of someone else. Also – some people come to the conclusion that – if they are willing to accept donated organs – then they too should offer theirs.
