There must be a million websites offering “the top” secrets for reviving a career that has died. These sites all share a common theme: They are dull and mostly useless.

As a worker who has come through a period of unemployment, let me enlighten you about how I accomplished it. In a nutshell, I continued to work. This is much easier said than done.

A job performs many roles in our sense of worth. It provides the opportunity to interact with other people, a sense of purpose, structure, and of course financial stability. The other side of the coin is that a layoff or termination takes all of the above-mentioned things away in one fell swoop. The key, then, is to regain what you’ve lost, even if finding a job is impossible.

To regain your sense of purpose – ind a quiet place and make a list of all the things you want in your life. Shoot for the moon. Go for broke. What do you really want to do in life? Spend more time fishing? Travel the world? Help people in some way? Make a list, and make it as specific as possible. Making that list is the first step toward the achievement of those goals.

To maintain the benefit of interacting with others – find free, healthy activities in your area and take an active part in them. Join a softball club. Volunteer at a senior center. Make sure to keep in close contact with friends and family, and be honest about your situation. This is how opportunities arise.

To keep paying the bills –  file for unemployment benefits. If that runs out before you find a job, think of services or products that you can offer. You might just end up in business for yourself.

Whatever you do, don’t stagnate – You might want to start a blog by unemployed person. Hey, maybe people will like what you write and you’ll become a a bigshot expert on the subject! You never know. If you have other hobbies, pursue the things that make you happy with gusto. This both keeps you from going crazy and opens new professional avenues to you.

Modeling is open to anyone who may have potential in any one of the above categories. I.e. someone who is good at drama may be a good candidate for portraying a certain character for advertising, or a child that is very sociable and likes being at the centre of attention. Plus more mature models, advertising – pensions/insurance, spectacles, etc.

If you have a desire to work in this type of industry and feel that you you have alot to offer, then don’t be too hung up about how you look. As your personality and dedication will be taken into consideration.
