How Do Hearing Aids Work?
July 13, 2010 No CommentsHearing aids are the devices amplifying a sound. Hearing aids are applied at hearing loss or at its total absence. The history of hearing aids begins with acoustic, namely with acoustical small horns. The narrow end of a small horn was inserted into external acoustical pass. Today a hearing aid is an electro-acoustic device which consists of a microphone, the amplifier-microchip and a phone.
The hearing aid works as follows: the sound wave reaches a microphone of a hearing aid and is there transformed into the electromagnetic. Further the wave amplified by transistors and lamps, gets to phone of a hearing aid and is there transformed again to a mechanical wave, i.e. to a sound. And the amplified sound vibrations reach ear from a hearing aid. Phones in hearing devices can be:
1. Air sound conduction – such a phone transfers the amplified sound vibrations to the external acoustical pass, and is inserted into an ear.
2. Bone sound conduction – a phone of this kind transmits a sound in an internal ear. A phone is pressed to the mastoid ear appendix.
There are also hearing aids of small sizes, and a phone in such devices has also small dimensions and is kept in an ear by means of the loose leaf. The loose leaf is made individually for each patient.
All hearing aids work from batteries. Special elements which received the name air-zinc are used. Their distinctive feature is presence of micro apertures, micro holes. These apertures are covered by a special protective film. Until the film is pasted, the battery is not active. After a removal of a protective film, air goes through the apertures and makes a battery active.
Presently especially popular are small-sized parotid hearing aids. Such hearing aids are much better than intraear hearing aids by quality of a sound. A new RIC technology in manufacture of new generation hearing aids is applied not so long ago. Thanks to RIC technology the risk of whistle in a hearing aid decreases. And it leads to the possibility to reduce dimensions of a hearing aid.
If you have removed a hearing aid for some time, switch it off and open a cover of a battery compartment. First of all, it will prolong a service life of a power element; secondly, it will prevent a casual occurrence of a feedback. The appearing whistling sound draws attention of children or pets as a result the device can be broken.
If you are not going to use a hearing aid during a long period, necessarily switch it off and take out a battery then put it in a tight case. Store the device in the dry and cool place inaccessible to children and pets. Do not expose it to the heat, direct sun rays or electromagnetic radiations.
Modern technologies bring many benefits. Among them there are not only things for our comfort but also different appliances such as digital hearing aids which assist people to overcome phisical limitations. Those who suffer from deafness and require such kind of devices, are invited to go to this affordable hearing aids site – this is the right spot offering much info about hearing aids and how to order them.
But the technologies do not only give us appliances and tools, they also are the tool for searching for those devices. Say, if you need hearing aids, it is intelligent to use the online network. Google and other search engines, social networks and forums will assist to compare and choose what is looked around for at the best price on the market.
