It is not safe to give blood if you have had cancer
As – The ‘UK Blood Transfusion and Tissue Transplantation Services’ have guidelines concerning cancer and who is safe to donate blood.
The reason being – is that there is a risk that a cancer cell(s) could be passed on in the blood..
Although there is no conclusive evidence to support this – The guideline is set out as a precautionary measure.
However – There are two exceptions to this rule, i.e. You can donate blood in the following circumstances:
- Have suffered basal cell skin cancer and have finished treatment,
- Have had treatment for an abnormal smear test, but had one normal smear since your treatment.
